The story of The Yahweh Mission began with an unexpected friendship between Joy Sarker from Bangladesh and Christopher “Chris” Kulhavik from the United States. Though they came from different countries and backgrounds, they were brought together by a shared faith and a deep desire to bring hope to people facing poverty and hardship.
Joy had witnessed the struggles of children and families within his community. He saw children filled with intelligence, dreams, and potential, yet held back by circumstances beyond their control. Many lacked reliable access to education, nutritious food, healthcare, and the basic support needed to build a better future. Where others might have seen only poverty, Joy saw lives filled with possibility—children who simply needed someone to believe in them and give them an opportunity.
Chris shared this compassion and believed that even the smallest act of kindness could become the beginning of meaningful change. Through prayer, trust, and a growing friendship, Joy and Chris decided not to remain silent in the face of suffering. They began taking small but practical steps to support families in Gonali. One of their earliest efforts was providing blankets to people who had little protection from the cold. What began as a simple gesture of warmth soon became the first chapter of a much greater journey.
As they continued serving, Joy and Chris realized that meeting immediate needs was important, but lasting transformation required something more. They believed education was one of the most powerful and sustainable ways to break the cycle of poverty. When a child is given the opportunity to learn, that child is also given the confidence to dream, the ability to make informed choices, and the chance to create a better future for themselves, their family, and their community
Their shared dream gradually grew into a vision for an organized mission—one that could provide education, care, encouragement, and meaningful opportunities to vulnerable children and families. However, officially establishing the mission required more than compassion alone. It needed structure, coordination, communication, a digital presence, and someone committed to helping bring every part of the vision together.
This was when Miduna joined the journey.
Miduna believed in the purpose of the mission and willingly offered her time, skills, and dedication to help Joy and Chris turn their shared dream into an organized and growing movement. She helped coordinate the mission’s work, develop its communications, establish its website and public presence, and put important processes in place. Her contribution helped connect the work being carried out in Bangladesh with donors, volunteers, partners, and compassionate supporters around the world.
Together, Joy, Chris, and Miduna helped transform a simple desire to serve into The Yahweh Mission—a mission built on faith, compassion, education, and the belief that every human life has value. Although they bring different experiences, skills, and responsibilities, they remain united by one purpose: to turn compassion into action and possibilities into opportunities.
Today, The Yahweh Mission continues to grow through the generosity of people who choose to donate, pray, volunteer, partner, and stand alongside the communities we serve. The mission is not sustained by its leaders alone, but by every person who believes that change is possible.
