Clean Water, Brighter Futures: The Mission in Gonali

From Thirst to Hope: Safe Drinking Water for Gonali

In the village of Gonali, water is life — but too often, it is also a source of sickness and fear. Families collect water from tube wells, ponds, or shallow pumps, but what appears clean to the eye can carry unseen dangers. Arsenic, bacteria, or even salty intrusion from rising seas can turn a simple glass of water into a daily threat.

For children, the impact is severe. Repeated stomach illnesses, weakness, and missed school days are common. Parents worry constantly, torn between the cost of medical treatment and the reality that tomorrow’s water may bring the same illness again. In times of flooding or heavy rains, the problem only grows worse, as surface runoff contaminates shallow wells and open water sources.

Yet, even in the middle of this challenge, light is breaking through. The Yahweh Mission believes that every child and every family in Gonali deserves the gift of safe water — water that strengthens, not weakens; water that sustains, not destroys.

We are taking steps to respond. Local water sources are being tested so families know which wells are safe and which are not. Simple household filters are being introduced so even poor families can treat their water before drinking. Rainwater harvesting offers another lifeline during the monsoon months, giving households clean storage tanks to draw from. At the same time, mothers are being taught safe storage practices so the water they collect remains pure inside their homes.

The change this brings is profound. Children once held back by illness now attend school more regularly. Parents save money otherwise spent on medicine. Families gather with peace of mind, knowing the water they serve to their children is safe.

One mother from Gonali shared her relief: “For years, we worried about our children getting sick. Now, with the filter we received, they drink water without fear. They laugh more, play more, and we can see their strength returning.”

Stories like hers remind us why this work matters. Clean water is not a luxury — it is a basic human right, and a sacred gift from God meant for all.

But the need is still great. Many families in Gonali continue to rely on unsafe sources, and the work of testing, filtering, and maintaining safe wells must go on. With your help, we can bring lasting solutions. A donation can provide a water filter to a family, support community-wide testing, or fund the installation of deeper, safer wells that can serve entire neighborhoods.

From thirst to hope, from fear to faith — together, we can transform the future of Gonali, one drop at a time.

Will you stand with us? Your gift can bring safe drinking water, health, and dignity to the people of Gonali.
